Dr Paul Boyden
BSc (Hons), PGCert, DClinPsy
I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist working in the NHS since 2007. I currently work in both a specialist mental health NHS service and in private practice. I offer a range of psychological therapies, supervision, consultation, teaching and training online and face to face from a consulting room in Kings Cross, London.
I hold a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Psychology and Sociology from Oxford Brookes University which is recognised by the British Psychological Society. I achieved my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Sheffield in 2012. I am registered as an accredited DBT Therapist with the Society of DBT UK and have a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) from Bangor University. To provide the best quality psychological therapy I I integrate DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR). This ensures that I provide a tailored psychological intervention for my clients.
I am registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and have worked in the NHS for over 16 years with people who are experiencing a variety of mental health problems and psychological difficulties.
My specialisms
I believe everybody will go through a struggle at least once in their life, whether it be due to a bereavement, childhood difficulties, depression, post traumatic stress or OCD. These difficulties are often very understandable and my role is to work with people and to help them make sense of these difficulties, how they started, what keeps them going and what can help break common patterns. I have experience in providing high quality evidence-based psychological interventions as recommended by the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE) for the following difficulties:
Stress
Worry
Depression and low mood
Anxiety (including panic attacks, phobias, OCD, agoraphobia, health anxiety and social anxiety)
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Grief and bereavement
Relationship Difficulties
Low self esteem and confidence
Anger
Self harm

Assessment
Following a free 15 minute video call, I offer a full psychological assessment of your needs. This will cover what your difficulties are, when they started and what you might want to achieve in therapy. This shared understanding is called a formulation and I will also utilise some psychological measures to ensure the right type of therapy is offered.
